If you are 62 years old you can apply to receive Social Security retirement benefits as an individual.
If you were born in 1956:
Your full retirement is 66 and 4 months.
Remember, the earliest a person can start receiving Social Security retirement benefits will remain age 62.
If you start receiving retirement benefits at
- age 62, you will get 73.3% of the monthly benefit because you will be getting benefits for an additional 52 months.
- age 65, you will get 91.1% of the monthly benefit because you will be getting benefits for an additional 16 months.
- age 62, you will get 34.2% of the monthly benefit instead of 50% because you will be getting benefits for an additional 52 months.
- age 65, you will get 44.4% of the monthly benefit instead of 50% because you will be getting benefits for an additional 16 months.
Note: If you qualify for benefits as a Survivor, your full retirement age may be different.
