Saturday, November 6th - Old Waterworks

This Saturday, Marshall Tucker Band will be playing at what I still call, the old stables at the waterworks. But now it is official called Amerson Waterworks Park. They'll be a couple of bands playing before the MTB band plays. Tickets are 20 dollars a head to get in and I'm sure hoping it will be well worth it. How could it not? I'm fixing, yes, fixing, to walk down memory lane when Marshall Tucker starts playing. I grew up listening to this song. This music.

I also grew up living out the best memories of my life from 16 to about 19 cause this old waterworks used to be a old dairy barn/horse stables. And this is where me and my sister had our first horses. We have ridden every mile of that land. And it's 100 acres if not more. It led us on many a ride back to the pond back there and on to the Ocmulgee River. Many a time did we go swimming in the pond and in the river. Back then it was safe for us to either ride alone or in 2's or more. One of the pastures was designated our "racing pasture". I remember sometimes about 7 or 8 of us would all line up and actually race each other down the length of the pasture! And of course bareback. It was to much bother to saddle up for most of us. Shoot, back then, I could even swing like a Indian (I used to think) up on my horse! And he was a Tennessee Walker that was about 16 1/2 hands tall. And also, who ever heard of a Walker racing? But he sure did it. Also we would set up jumps and jump too. I'm not a expert, but don't think Walkers jumped either. You sure couldn't tell a bunch of hormonal teenage girls that! We loved our horses, we loved going out there riding everyday, we loved sitting under the old rat infested barn talking about the old perverted, alcoholic man that rented the barn/land out to us, and of course talking about the one's that weren't there to keep us from talking about them!

I have so many memories from back then that just writing this brings back quite a few stories that I can tell. And I'll add that to another day. Until then, I sure hope I run into old friends, will probably see faces I recognize, but won't remember their names. I hear there's alot of people talking about it. Suppose to be cold, but I'll brave it in my coat. Tents, coolers, grills, are welcome.

Can't you see?
